Description
The 1986 Topps Baseball set features a distinct, easily recognizable, and unmistakable design. Borders are predominantly white, with a black background bar occupying the top quarter of each card. The top of each card prominently displays the team name in bold block letters, colored to match the team’s official palette. A small circle at the bottom of the player’s photo indicates their position. Finally, the player’s name is written in capital letters across the bottom of the card. Card backs are reddish, featuring the player’s name and vital information at the top. Complete major and minor league statistics are provided for each player. When space permits, cards also include a brief write-up. Many cards also feature an additional box called “Talkin’ Baseball,” adorned with a cartoon baseball and a small piece of trivia. Notable subsets include All-Stars, Record Breakers, and Turn Back the Clock. Pete Rose, who broke the all-time career hits record late in 1985, is honored with a six-card tribute, featuring reprints of all his Topps base cards from 1963 to 1985. The 1986 Topps Baseball set also includes a pair of exciting insert sets. Glossy All-Stars can be found one per rack pack. A separate set of Glossy cards was also available through a mail-in offer. Collectors could build a full 60-card set by sending in six different mail-in requests.
