At the outbreak of the American Civil War, two types of sabers were issued to the Federal cavalry: “light” and “heavy”. While the light version was popular, the heavy model, affectionately dubbed the “Old Wrist Breaker,” was truly the one worth owning, widely regarded as a superior weapon. Its impressive 36″ blade offered significant reach advantages over most other sabers, and its substantial weight provided the leverage to easily crush bones, sever limbs, or even a head with a single, powerful blow. The robust brass guard featured three bars to protect the hand, while the grip was crafted from wire-bound leather and capped with a sturdy pommel. Encased in its double-ringed steel scabbard, it could be easily attached to a saddle or belt. The blade is meticulously crafted from 1055 high carbon steel with a hard spring temper, ensuring it will pass the rigorous British Proof Test.
